If you’re looking to dust off those hiking boots and head out on the trails this autumn, it is the perfect season to schedule in an overnight or multi-day hike.
Tackling those longer distances is made easier with the milder weather. As autumn sets in, wallabies, kangaroos and birds become more active preparing for the cooler months ahead. Plus, with fewer pesky flies and mosquitoes, you'll enjoy a more comfortable environment.
Here are three excellent multi-day hiking trails to take you on a journey through Victoria’s spectacular forest landscape:

1. Walk into History
Yarra and Latrobe State Forests on Wurundjeri Country
Grade 3 walk - bushwalking experience recommended

This epic 33km, 2-to-3-day trek is the closest overnight hike to Melbourne and follows historic timber tramways that wind through both Yarra and Latrobe State Forests.
True to its name, this experience will take you into historic old bush mills and past tramway relics that were once the backbone of the timber industry from 1908 to 1916.
A popular route – and a gentler gradient – is to kick off your adventure from Warburton and head to Starlings Gap for your first night’s camping.
You’ll walk to hike-in campsite Ada No2 Mill on the second day, with a side trip to the Ada Tree, one of Victoria’s oldest trees.
Your final day will finish in the township of Powelltown, a 25-minute drive from Warburton.
If you’re keen to explore the area, consider resting your walk-weary legs in Warburton.

2. Beeripmo Walk
Mt Cole/Beeripmo State Forest and Mt Buangor State Park on Eastern Maar Country
Grade 3 walk - bushwalking experience recommended

If this is your first foray into overnight hiking, Beeripmo Walk is one to add to your adventure list. Re-opened in late January following bushfire recovery works, this 21km, 2 day loop walk starts from Richards Campground, 25km from the township of Beaufort and the gateway to the Pyrenees Wine District and the Grampians.
Day one will cover 7.2km, climbing steadily from Richards Campground out towards Buangor Lookout where you’ll enjoy stunning views of Mt Buangor State Park, Mt Langi Ghiran and the Grampians. The day will finish at the halfway point- Beeripmo Campground where you’ll find camping sites, fire pits for cooking and toilets.
Day two is a 13km walk that will wind its way past Sugarloaf View and Grevillea Lookout and back to Richards Campground.

3. Pyrenees Endurance Walk
Pyrenees Range State Forest on Dja Dja Wurrung Country
Grade 4 walk - experienced bushwalkers

If you’re after more of a challenge, the 18km, 2-day Pyrenees Endurance Walk through rugged mountain ranges is the perfect choice.
You’ll encounter an abundance of wildlife and mammals including kangaroos, koalas, bats and goannas, as well as rich and diverse plant life with over 200 species of plants and over 100 bird species having been recorded in this forest.
Commence the walk from Waterfalls Picnic Area, 12km west of Avoca. You’ll climb steeply to Mt Avoca and onto Camerons Track Campground for the night which is about the halfway point. On day two you’ll descend through tall iron bark forest and finish at Warrenmang Road on the edge of the Pyrenees State Forest.
