About this walk
Summit Walk is in Mt Disappointment State Forest, about an hour’s drive north of Melbourne.
Mt Disappointment State Forest is one of Melbourne’s most accessible areas for recreation. Though damaged by bushfire over the years, the forest is regenerating. It remains a popular spot for bushwalking, camping and mountain biking.
The Traditional Owners of this area are the Kulin nation. The Wurundjeri tribe looked after the land in the south and the Taungurung tribe looked after the land in the north.
From valley to peak
Embark on this walk at Blairs Hut picnic area and follow the trail through the tree-lined fern valley to the summit of Mt Disappointment.
The explorers Hume and Hovell gave Mt Disappointment its name after the summit failed to give them views of their objective of Port Phillip Bay.
Views from the summit are blocked by vegetation but the trail continues a short distance to a lookout that will provide you with distant views.
Continue on the loop walk to return to Blairs Hut picnic area.
