About this walk

This short 600m return walk follows the Little Cabbage Tree Creek through lush rainforest and past prehistoric Kanooka trees (Tristaniopsis laurina). These small trees once dominated the landscape but are now confined to watercourses and pockets of rainforest that are moist and less prone to wildfire.

As you walk along the track, granite boulders can be seen jutting out of the creek through gaps in the trees. Look for disturbed leaf litter and scratchings in the soil along the way. This is a sign that lyrebirds and wombats have been busy raking and digging in search of food. The vegetation opens up to reveal a large viewing platform.

From here, you can take in views of the waterfall and marvel at the sheer size of the giant granite boulders towering above. Follow the track back to the Little Cabbage Tree Creek Picnic Area and enjoy lunch at one of the picnic tables before continuing your journey along Murrungowar Forest Drive.
