About this picnic area
Just under an hour’s drive from Mt Buller, north-east of Melbourne in Victoria’s High Country, you’ll find the historic Tomahawk Hut.
Tomahawk Hut was originally built in 1927 by the Forest Commission as a base for road building crews. Rebuilt in 2007, it now serves as a fantastic visitor site rich in history and an example of an early Victorian High Country hut. Help protect our historic huts by following the High Country Huts Code.
This picturesque shelter sits in a beautiful forest setting. The hut has an open fire and the site has a picnic table and fire pit.
Stop here for a scenic picnic on your journey through the Mansfield State Forest or set up camp for a longer stay.
