Visitors should note that Gunbower Island often experiences annual flooding (typically from August to November). Access to Gunbower Island is closed during these times. Check out road conditions on Mapshare before you go.

About this picnic area
Gunbower Island is an ideal destination for all nature lovers and the perfect spot for all your water-based recreation pursuits. Bring a picnic basket and your boat to Spence Bridge Visitor Area and enjoy the sights and sounds of the surrounding river red gum forest.
The site is on Gunbower Creek water frontage and provides basic facilities including a boat ramp, BBQs and picnic tables. There is plenty of space to park cars and boat trailers and the single lane concrete boat ramp provides easy access to the creek.
Gunbower Island features one of the largest river red gum forests in Victoria, which can be explored by boat, canoe or kayak. Other popular activities here include bushwalking, camping, fishing, swimming, nature study and scenic drives.
