About this picnic area

Surrounded by beautiful forest, the impressive Noojee Trestle Bridge is the tallest surviving wooden trestle bridge in Victoria, towering an impressive 21 metres high.

The bridge is one of the last remnants of the old railway that ran from Noojee to Warragul. Originally built in 1919, it was burnt down in 1939 and rebuilt in the same year. Black Friday bushfires also caused significant damage to the railway line and Noojee township, with repairs to the bridge taking several months to complete.

Choose your view

Nestled among mountain ash forests, this is a fantastic spot for a family day trip. You can take a short walk up the stairs to experience spectacular views from the top of the bridge, or enjoy the peaceful surroundings from below while you picnic at one of the tables located at the base.

The Noojee Trestle Bridge is next to a car park located down a gravel road off Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road. Alternatively, you can walk or cycle the 3km (one way) Noojee Trestle Bridge Walk starting from Noojee township.

Investing in nature

Noojee Trestle Bridge was upgraded in 2022 thanks to Victoria’s Great Outdoors. Works included repairs to the bridge decking and piles and replacement of damaged timber. A new handrail extension has also been installed to meet Australian safety standards.

Victoria’s Great Outdoors is boosting regional tourism and making it easier to enjoy nature by investing in better walking trails, campgrounds, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities.
