About this site

The Mooralla Gemstone Reserve, also known as Beaar Fossicking Reserve, is located 30 minutes north of the township of Cavendish and close to the southern bank of Rocklands Reservoir.

The renowned location is famous for the Mooralla 'smoky quartz' crystals found here. The quartz specimens typically range between 1 cm and 4 cm in length. Don't forget to bring along your pick and shovel for a rewarding fossicking adventure.

The reserve boasts diverse flora and fauna, with wallabies often spotted among the eucalypt forest and native orchids that bloom during the spring season.

Explore within the permitted fossicking area of 300 m x 300 m, where there are basic toilet facilities for day-trippers and campers.

After a day of fossicking, refresh yourself at the picturesque Rocklands Reservoir. Spend a night under the stars at one of the several campgrounds along the shoreline, such as Fergusons, Henry’s and Glendinning.
