About this picnic area
Cossticks Weir was constructed in the wake of the devastating 1939 ‘Black Friday’ bushfires to provide a reliable source of water for firefighting. This small stone weir was one of hundreds built by the Forests Commission and was constructed using local materials and ingenuity. It is named after Jack Cosstick, the Forest Officer who supervised the construction.
A small picnic area sits next to the weir and includes picnic tables, fire pits and a toilet.
Located adjacent to the East Gippsland Rail Trail, and only 100m from the historic Stony Creek Trestle Bridge, Cossticks Weir is a great place to enjoy a picnic while exploring the forests of East Gippsland.
