About this picnic area
This shady and peaceful picnic spot is located at the site of an old train station in the Otway Forest Park. Have your outdoor lunch against a soundtrack of birdsong, echoing around the surrounding towering eucalypts.
Birnam Station was on the original Beechy rail line. The Beechy line, built in the early 1900s, was a narrow-gauge railway line that was used to transport timber, potatoes and passengers from Beech Forest and Lavers Hill North to Colac, up until 1960.
Portions of the original right-of-way have been developed as part of the Old Beechy Rail Trail, a 50km walking and cycling track that runs between Colac and Ferguson.
This area is also the starting point for a pleasant short fern loop walk.
About this walking track
Beginning at the Birnam Station picnic area, this short walk takes you along a looped track surrounded by ferns and towering eucalypts.
