About this trail

Most popular with riders but also suitable for walkers, this one-way track requires vehicle drop-off or pick-up and be started from either Bairnsdale or Bruthen and concludes at Lakes Entrance.

If starting your ride near Bruthen where the trail joins the East Gippsland Rail Trail, the total length of the trail is 36km. If starting from Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance, it's a full 65km one-day ride which can be completed as an easier 2-day ride with an overnight break in Bruthen.

For walkers starting from Bruthen, it will be a 36km two-day walk with camping available at Log Crossing (23km from Bruthen). The last 10km into Lakes Entrance are along a mixture of unsealed and sealed country roads.

A scenic ride with historic views

The trail passes through quiet farmland and enchanting forest, retracing the route of a historic light rail tramway. You’ll also catch views of an old granite quarry and other historic features of interest.

Take notice of the lush scenic surrounds, including wattles, blackwood, stringybark and manna gum. See if you can spot some of the local wildlife that frequent the area, including lyrebirds, wombats, wallabies or possums.

Finish your ride (or walk) with a relaxing downhill stretch that takes you into Lakes Entrance.
