About this tour

This full-day 4WD touring route through the scenic Wombat State Forest takes in many historical and natural points of interest.

This easy to medium grade route in dry conditions covers 100km between Gisborne to Ballan and can be started from either township.

Several walks, picnic areas and old forestry and mining sites all connect to this route for visitors to enjoy. This includes Balt Camp, built in 1946 for migrants from the Baltic States  who became forestry workers following World War 2.

If you'd like to extend your stay at Wombat State Forest, Firth Park is a well-equipped campground along the tour which is popular with history buffs and horse riders, and also the starting point for the Anderson Mill Walk.

Victoria’s Great Outdoors is boosting regional tourism and making it easier to enjoy nature by investing in better walking trails, campgrounds, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities.
