About this site

Waanyarra Recreation Site is an excellent spot to camp, walk and enjoy nature. Immerse yourself in the region's fascinating gold mining history. In the 1850s, the discovery of gold led to a series of rushes to this area. Waanyarra fast became a bustling town, known to have produced the purest gold in the world.

This free campground is a great base for exploring the Dunolly State Forest. Look out for evidence of the old township throughout the surrounding bush. There are also many natural attractions in the area, as well as remnants from Traditional Owners and European settlers.

The site has a central picnic area with plenty of facilities for your stay. This area is surrounded by campsites and the clear, flat ground and ample parking makes it a good spot for campervans and camper trailers.
