About this campground
Shippens Flat is situated deep within the Buckland Valley State Forest, 30km south of Porepunkah.
There is an oasis of open space for large groups and more secluded areas with plenty of shade along the Buckland River for smaller groups. Be sure to watch out for cows that roam the campsite from nearby farmland. The river is accessible with steep foot tracks leading down to the water.
The campsites are suitable for camper trailers and small high clearance caravans. Make sure you take your rubbish with you when you leave.
The traditional owners of this area are the Taungurung people. Looking for a campground that has a rich cultural experience while you’re in the region? Book a guided Indigenous art tour in the neighbouring Mount Buffalo area, just a one-hour drive from Shippens Flat.
Be aware that at certain times of the year, logging trucks use Buckland Valley Road. The Buckland Valley Road is sealed for the first 17km to the Buckland Cemetery and then unsealed for the remainder. The unsealed section is suitable for two-wheel drive access throughout the year. Access to the site may be slippery in wet weather.
