About this campground

Ingrams Campground is in the foothills of Mt Baw Baw on the banks of the Western Tyers River. This family-friendly campground provides a unique camping experience in a remote forest setting.

The campground has 17 campsites suitable for tent and vehicle-based camping. There are two toilet blocks, two picnic shelters and several firepits and picnic tables.

Visitors will enjoy the three river platforms for easy river access and fishing. There is also a small recreation oval, complete with goal posts, ready for a game of kick-to-kick.

Exploring the timber heritage

The campground is at the site of the former Western Tyers settlement, which once housed the Ingrams sawmill. Established in 1940, Ingrams was one of several timber mills that operated in the Tyers Valley in the first half of the 1900s. Timber harvesting played an important role in the local economy surrounding Erica, with timber used for domestic housing, construction and defence needs.

The timber heritage walk is a great way to explore the area's rich timber heritage, showcasing historic relics and sites that once formed part of the settlement.

Highlights of this walk include a ‘pelton wheel turbine’ which relied on running water to help power the sawmill, as well as a set of ‘bogie wheels’ used to transport logs along timber tramways.
