About this campground

Grant Reserve is an excellent stopover on your four-wheel driving or historic tour through the Great Dividing Range.

With the historical backdrop of the gold rush era, this area has a great deal to offer including numerous camping spots, thrilling 4WD adventures and rich history. It's an ideal rest point when travelling between Warburton and Jamieson or on your way back to the Aberfeldy Back-Road Tours.

The site has an intriguing past. The town of Matlock was established in 1863 following the population boom triggered by the gold rush, attracting a whopping 1,000 miners to the area. However like many towns of the gold rush era, Matlock's fortunes began to wane as a bypass to Woods Point was developed and fresh gold discoveries lured prospectors further afield.
